Easy Oven BBQ Ribs – No Grill Needed
Is there any food that says summer more than barbeque? Baby back ribs are a classic, served up with summer favorites like baked beans and corn. Now traditionally ribs are roasted right on the grill for an old-fashioned barbeque. But if you don’t have a big grill–or just don’t want to tend it, here is a recipe for Super Easy Oven BBQ Ribs.
As I’ve hinted, there are different schools of thought on rib styles. Boil first? Bake or grill? Rub or sauce? My perspective? Just give me something that is flavorful, tasting of both pork and BBQ sauce. Oh… and meltingly tender. Mmmm!
This recipe is super easy. You make a spice rub, spread it on the ribs, wrap in foil (heavy duty is ideal) and cook for 2-3 hours. It requires absolutely-no-tending during that time, while it melts into a tender pool of flavor. Yes, I really focused on some work during the wait.
Once the ribs are almost falling-off-the-bone-tender, you spread with a layer of BBQ sauce and cook another half hour. Can’t get much easier than that!
Ribs were on sale locally, so knowing my pastured pork wouldn’t last the summer, I hit the market. There the checkout clerk gave me a great tip. Cook up extra racks of Easy Oven BBQ Ribs, then freeze what you don’t eat. Then it’s even easier the second time.
Yup, I took his advice!
- 1 t paprika
- 1 t cayenne
- ½ t pepper
- 1 ½ t garlic powder
- 2 t salt
- 1 t dry mustard
- 1 rack ribs
- ¼ c BBQ sauce (plus extra for serving)
- Mix spice rub ingredients. Rub spice rub on all sides of the ribs.
- Wrap ribs in aluminum foil (heavy duty is ideal), then cook at 300 F for 2-3 hours until very tender (mine went 2 1/2 hours).
- Uncover ribs, brush with BBQ sauce, return to the oven and bake uncovered for another half hour (I usually just open the top of the foil and leave it in place)
- Cut into thirds (or desired serving size), then serve with extra BBQ sauce for the biggest sauce lovers!
- Quick Lemon Garlic Salmon
- Grilled Ahi Tuna Salad (or Not Salad)
great method! i’ve only ever tried the grill-and-bake method, but this looks equally delicious! plus, i get to stay inside in the ac! i’m sold.
I can’t believe I have never made ribs before. I think oven-roasted sounds like the best way to start!
I’ve made this recipe a couple times now, David, but hadn’t tried them before either. I guess I thought they were hard or temperamental (silly me!) That’s why I love my CSAs and bulk farm meat buying–it forces me to conquer my fears 🙂
Great recipe Inger, like the fact that you can put them in the oven and leave them alone. I’m the same way, all I care about is that they are tender;)
I couldn’t believe how easy this really was Cheri!
