Summer is here—with a vengeance!  After a spring filled with record snow and low temperatures, we’re going to have a classic, hot Fourth of July after all.

Last night was blistering hot—even after sunset.  But summers are short in Wisconsin, and I wanted to entice the family outside.  Enter Frozen Strawberry Margaritas on the patio!

Looks even better close

This year, I am trying to eat as local as possible.  While there’s no such thing as local tequila in Wisconsin, I was able to go local for everything else.  Limes in the freezer from a winter trip to Florida, local orange liquor from Great Lakes Distillery, and a honey-sweetened (no local sugar here) Margarita recipe from Gimme Some Oven to start.  Of course, local strawberries are a snap!

Local Orange Liqueur!

I did have one problem with my first batch, which may have stemmed from the fact I was making frozen strawberry margaritas instead of fresh. (Given the temps outside, frozen was my only real option 🙂 ). When I blended everything up, the honey (warm after heating it to liquify) clumped as soon as it hit the frozen berries and no amount of blending would break it up.

Deck Drinks – yes!

For my second attempt, however, I got my alcohol and lime juice swirling in the blender, poured the warm molten honey into the mix, then followed up with the frozen berries. Ding, ding, ding, a winner!

Pouring honey

Sweetened with honey!

And frozen strawberry margaritas really do work for everyone.  If you are serving underage guests or non-drinkers, you can substitute orange juice for the alcohol, so everyone can enjoy!

Okay, summer, I’m ready for anything!

Yes, snow would call for a completely different sort of beverage wouldn’t it! I do have a nice hot buttered rum on the blog somewhere Tandy 😉
