If you like essential oils, enjoy making fun products for the home or just want the best (natural) smelling house, give the Simply Earth Essential Oil Recipe Box a try!
(Disclaimer: This post contains affiliate links and I received the products free of charge in exchange for this review. But the opinions are my own.)
I just received a fun new subscription box. It came from a small company I learned about recently called Simply Earth. They offer a monthly collection of essential oils (plus extras) that help you make natural body care or related products easily at home.
I’ve enjoyed a number of subscriptions in the past–makeup as a teenager, gourmet food, wine. But as a green blogger, the Simply Earth box was especially interesting. Regular readers may have heard me quoting, what goes on you, goes in you! Right?
If you are careful about what your family uses, this is sooo worth looking into.
What’s in a box…
The September box has a “soap” theme and contains the following:
- Cajeput Essential Oil
- Bay (Laurel Leaf) Essential Oil
- Lemongrass Essential Oil
- Happy Joy Essential Oil Blend
- Soap Mold
- Aloe Glycerin Soap Base
- Pre-printed labels
It also includes over a half dozen recipes to help you use them–see below for what I’ve made so far!
And as a new subscriber, you get an additional special offer–for free! It’s a bonus box with even more supporting products. Things like bottles and carrier oils that will help you make future recipes. My bonus box contained:
- 6 small Amber Bottles
- 6 Amber Roll-On Bottles
- 1 bag of Beeswax Pellets
- 12 oz. Jar of Solid Coconut Oil
- 4 oz. Bottle of Liquid Coconut Oil
- 4 oz. Bottle of Almond Oil
This brings the full value to over $150. All for the regular $39 box price (a deal in itself!).
Even better, for a limited time, I have a code that will get you $40 off on a future box. That means your first month is a great deal–and your second month could be free. How fun is that!

My experience so far
So far, I’ve made two soaps for the family and a roll-on scent bottle for my daughter. She always wanted to use perfume and I’d never let her because of the chemicals many perfumes contain.
The recipes were easy and efficient, and I got all three done before leaving for my morning classes! Even better, when I got home from class, the house still smelled amazing!
Interestingly, at a recent dinner event, the topic of essential oils came up. Here I learned that lots of people (even grandparents) are using essential oils in diffusers. Or putting them on their wool dryer balls.
Where have I been!
The Company
Part of the motivation for the founders of this company was the challenge experienced sourcing good quality natural products. They comment:
With the safety of your home in mind, we’re meticulous about every step of our process. To make sure each plant reaches its potential, we carefully and ethically choose a region where it will thrive. Then we work with our farmers. When our plants have reached maturity, they are harvested safely and fairly. From there we collect their natural essential oils through either cold-pressing or steam-distillation. Every batch is then tested to ensure 100% purity.
I can personally attest to the frustration of thinking you were getting a great deal on a pure essential oil, only to discover (after delivery) that it was heavily diluted with a carrier oil.
Yes, Simply Earth is so confident in their quality they offer a 365 day guarantee! Plus they donate 13% of their profits to charity.

Oh how fun, making your own mix…and even soap? I have some of my favorite essential oils but never made soap with it…super interesting.
They included a glycerin base which made the soap easy. I also buy a natural liquid soap in a gallon size and then scent with essential oils. So convenient. And I change scents seasonally then.
I love making my own soaps using essential oils. I have a hippo mould as I think it looks pretty as a gift. Have fun experimenting.
A hippo mold sounds cute Tandy. What a great gift idea.
Beautiful presentation, and the products look wonderful. And how could you not love them when they give 13% to charity?!
Thanks David!
