4th of July Fruit Kabobs
Pretty in red, white and blue, these 4th of July Fruit Kabobs are a perfect family snack or dessert. Serve with a cream cheese yogurt dip for even more fun.

Summertime and the living is… well, not always easy. So it’s not surprising that hot dogs, sweet snacks and frozen cocktails can sometimes dominate the summer cookout scene.
But, with a little creativity, I’ve found that healthy, easy, and tasty are not so out of reach. And they can even look cute, all dressed up for the July 4th holiday.
So today I made fruit skewers using bite-sized strawberries, whole blackberries and some striking white and black dragon fruit. And just in case that’s being too good, there’s an optional yogurt cream cheese dip to put it over the top.
After all, you only turn 250 once!

Why You’ll Love This!
Flavorful. Strawberries are at their ripest, juiciest best now and are delicious paired with tasty blackberries and striking dragon fruit.
Easy. Just assemble and serve—how easy is that! And if you use mostly bite-sized fruits, there isn’t even much cutting!
Fun. Whether you’re serving kids or adult guests, everything’s more fun on a skewer!
Healthy. You can’t make a sweet treat much healthier than fruit on a stick!

Step by Step Overview
A dipping sauce is optional but can be a tasty addition. If you’re including it, simply mix up the ingredients (I used a hand mixer) and transfer to a serving dish.

Next cut up the fruit as needed and slide onto your skewers.

I like to plan for two skewers per person. Since everyone is coming back for seconds!

Variations
I love the color combination of red, white and blue, despite its being a little politically charged right now. As two bold contrasting primary colors with a clean neutral, I figure it’s a solid artistic choice. Both (waaaay) back in the day and now.
If you have a hard time finding dragon fruit or are watching your pennies, you can go with apple or pear chunks, or even angel food cake or marshmallows. Or grab a package of the small fresh mozzarella balls to add a little protein and calcium to your dessert!
Finally I have a couple other July 4th desserts that I’ve enjoyed in the past. There is a strawberry blueberry parfait that’s almost as easy as the kabobs. Plus I have a fruit fool with meringue stars that’s seriously fun and not at all intimidating if you’ve made meringue before.

Tips & FAQs
While often people reach for the biggest strawberries, I like medium-small berries for fruit skewers. They are bite-sized and don’t need cutting (other than removing the stem).
A melon baller is convenient for making balls from melon or other fruits including dragon fruit. But did you know that you can use a measuring spoon? It’s so handy–not that I’m averse to acquiring another tool in my kitchen!
If you aren’t familiar with dragon fruit, you will usually find them in red or yellow (exterior) varieties—even in smaller towns. In fact my nearby “big city” of under 10K has two stores with dragon fruit that I know of! The yellow tends to be more flavorful but the red is bigger and sometimes easier to turn into balls.
Enjoy!
