Mixed Deli Hawaiian Roll Sliders

Mixed Deli Hawaiian Roll Sliders makes a tasty and easy meal or snack–with enough variety to make everyone happy.  Perfect for Game Day or anytime!

Hawaiian Roll Sliders

Back in my corporate days, I loved team reward lunches.  And one favorite selection was the giant sub sandwich. How cool was it that one huge sandwich came with… like 6 different fillings.  Sometimes it IS all about variety!

Now recently I had an almost déjà vu experience when we were visiting my stepsister and she served up some hot slider sandwiches.  She was cleaning out her refrigerator she said, almost apologetically, so they were a collection of different deli meats and flavors.

And right then, my mind started firing on all cylinders: This. Is. Genius!  I’ve always loved my Ham and Cheese Sliders, but how fun is three (or more) kinds of meat!

And just in time for football season!

Why You’ll Love This!

Flavorful. Warm, cheesy and meaty, with a tasty sauce, served on lightly sweet Hawaiian rolls, these are overflowing with flavor.

Easy.  Made with deli meat (you can even use pre-shredded cheese) and packaged rolls, these are quick to assemble.  You didn’t want to miss any of the game, did you?

A crowd-pleaser.  Hawaiian Roll Sliders are beloved by all—even more if you have everyone’s favorite flavor!

Healthier.  I cut the amount of butter dressing down slightly from most of the online recipes.  But if it’s not quite rich enough go ahead and increase it.

Top the pan with aluminum foil, sealing the edges, then bake until cheese is melted, about 30 minutes.

When cheese is melted, remove aluminum foil, then put back in the oven to crisp more, about 3-5 minutes (buns will crisp more as they cool slightly).  Serve warm.

And now that I’ve had this much fun, more slider variations are going on my to-do list!

Going Big (Full Size Option)

Now back in the day, my aunt had her own twist on the now-popular poppyseed ham and cheese sliders.  She made them with full sized hamburger buns, then she wrapped the sandwiches individually and popped them in the freezer.

It was a wonderful convenience and pretty soon all of the moms were doing this.  Surprise guests?  After school practice goes past dinner?  Just pop a frozen sandwich in the oven and problem solved.

This is something I still do periodically.  It’s especially nice during the holidays when hungry guests appear at all hours.  ‘Cause a hot sandwich always feels more special.

Tips & FAQs

When shopping to make ham & cheese sliders, I’ve always had the deli shave the ham extra thin. But since I was doing smaller quantities of multiple types of meat for this, I didn’t want to ask for that many favors.

Instead, when it came time to “stuff” the sandwiches I ripped the deli slices up by hand.  It was easy and worked great for piling a lot of meat on without it seeming too dense.

Do I need to use Hawaiian Rolls?  You don’t.  As I mentioned, we grew up eating a similar sandwich made on a hamburger bun.  And I have long made that using dinner rolls as slider buns. While the sweet of the Hawaiian roll can be a nice compliment, it’s good either way.

Notes

I used the Hawaiian roll box set into another pan to bake in but check the package instructions in case they stop the box oven safe.
I hand shredded to meat to help get it to form a nice pile.
