Virgin Strawberry Margarita
This tasty Virgin Strawberry Margarita is alcohol free and won’t get you tipsy. But it’s still full of bright strawberry and citrus flavors!
Mocktails are all the rage. And they’re becoming tastier and more varied all the time.
Yup, instead of simply pouring a couple juices over ice, there is more attention to deeper flavors. And the result is a more satisfying experience. Yum!
Yes, I still remember the first time I had a Virgin Margarita—the standard lime version in that case. I was pregnant with my first child, and we stopped at our regular Mexican restaurant. When the drink came, and I tasted it, my face fell. Yes, the waitress consoled, that isn’t the best without the alcohol. Next time go with Strawberry.
Hmm, good idea!
Why You’ll Love This!
Tasty. With big strawberry flavor highlighted by more subtle citrus notes, you won’t miss the alcohol a bit!
All natural. With strawberries, OJ, lime juice and just a little sugar or sweetener, you’ll even get a couple fruits for your “five-a-day” servings of fruit and vegetables.
Alcohol free. There are times when I want an alcoholic drink with some punch. But not every day. And this gives me the option of a “cocktail” with zero deprivation. Even if everyone else is sipping booze.
No special ingredients. No agave, no simple syrup. No run to the store. No extra work. Who’s in?
What You’ll Need
Ingredient Notes
- Frozen strawberries. These provide the bright strawberry flavor. Frozen are best for a thick drink but you can substitute fresh with some ice.
- Lime juice. This adds tartness and balances the sweet flavor of the strawberries.
- Orange juice. This substitutes for the orange flavored Cointreau that you find in a conventional Strawberry Margarita.
- Sugar. This boosts the flavor and balances the tartness of the lime.
- Water. If you use frozen berries, you’ll likely need a little water to complete the blending. You can omit if fresh berries are used and increase the amount if needed for a thick but smooth drink.
Special Tools
- A high speed blender is needed to blend the drink.
Step by Step Directions
Rim glasses with sugar if desired.
Add ingredients to a blender. Blend until smooth. Adjust water or ice as needed to thicken or thin the drink.
Pour into two glasses and garnish if desired.
How to Serve
A Virgin Strawberry Margarita is perfect for cocktail hour, perhaps served with some salsa like this Black Bean and Corn Salsa or Tangy Mango Pineapple Salsa.
And it’s also delicious with brunch, lunch or dinner. Consider something with Mexican flair like these Grilled Shrimp Tacos or Chiles Rellenos.
You have two other decisions when serving a margarita. These are: what glass style to use and whether to rim the glass or not.
Below you see the two classic Margarita glasses–and either is great. But if you don’t have one of these, another style “fancy” glass is also a lot of fun. In the end, however, the best glass is the one you have!
While classic lime margarita glasses are usually rimmed with salt, strawberry usually gets sugar. I personally prefer to skip the work. But if you’re a big fan, go ahead.
Variations and Special Diets
A Virgin Strawberry Margarita accommodates lots of dietary restrictions! It’s already vegetarian, vegan and dairy-free. Omit the sugar or use a sweetener for sugar free. You could even go all the say to keto/low-carb by using a half cup of water and some orange extract instead of the orange juice.

Nice drink choice when you want a strawberry margarita but not the alcohol.
I’ll have to try this. I love the combination of lime with strawberries and it’s so nutritional. Practically a smoothie!
